Guest speakers, slides, hands on projects and lots of good note taking will fill the evenings with approximately a one hour presentation for each subject as well as a thorough question and answer session.

The format will follow a weekly topic, taught Tuesday evenings at Whites Gallery in Montrose, and Wednesday evenings at Segil Fine Art in Monrovia. The sessions will start at 6 p.m. sharp and space is limited to 15 students per evening. Each evening is an individual course, so artists may pick and choose which class would best suit their needs.

“Our brainstorming came from a discussion we had a few months ago involving how desperately we think the ‘local and emerging’ artists could use a professional boost,” said Strack. Most gallery owners are a bit unapproachable. “Laura and I share the philosophy that there is so much talent in the ‘Foothill Corridor’, all we need to do is encourage and educate the fabulous artists we have here and it can become a win/win for artist’s and galleries alike!”

“It goes unsaid how much this would help the collectors in the area,” said Laura Segil. There will be two classes offered especially for collectors as well. One will deal with Gallery Insights for Art Collectors, which will include some rich art history and slides of locals work over the last 100 years in California, as well as “The Values in Collecting Fine Art” which will concentrate on appraisals.

The two gallery owners do not share the same philosophies on all things. “But that is the good thing about sharing the seminars….the artist’s will benefit from a broader perspective as to what works,” Segil said.
