This month I would like to introduce you to the work of F. Scott GarlandSegil Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibit of the new collection of paintings by F. Scott Garland. Mr. Garland’s new collection of paintings are brought together for a show he has entitled "Critters!" As the name might imply, each of his new paintings will either be of an animal, or have an animal featured in it. Scott has combined his experience in design, a strong palette and a love for animals for a show that will be not only elegant but fun as well. Born and raised in Pasadena California, Scott can remember going to Palm Springs when he was eight years old, his mom setting him down with his sister in front of Sambo’s restaurant, giving them a pad of charcoal paper with pencils, and they would draw for hours. “People would start to gather around us to watch! Both my sister and I always had a knack for drawing.” Although art came naturally to Scott, it wasn’t until his second year in college that he took his first formal class in art. A pre-med student at the time, he shocked his family when he announced his plan to change his major to art. A year later he was accepted to Art Center College of Design, and graduated from there with a BFA in Graphics-Packaging. Four years after graduation, in the midst of being engaged and running a graphic design studio, Scott fell from an extension ladder and was paralyzed from the chest down. With the help of what Scott lists as “Faith, Family and Friends” he worked his way back as a designer, married the woman he calls the “real hero” and has never looked back. He has worked for clients that include Toyota, Yamaha, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Lockheed and Time magazine. He has taught graphic design at the High School level and for two years directed the Mountainside Fine Art Gallery in Old Town Monrovia. Scott now enjoys painting full time in his studio at home in Monrovia, and frequently getting away to his “ranch” in Lone Pine, California. | ||
