Segil Fine Art is honored to welcome W. Jason Situ in a one-man exhibition featuring a breathtaking new collection of studio and plein air paintings. Mr. Situ’s paintings are not just about line, space or color on a canvas, they are an exploration of mood and variations on familiar themes in the landscape. The artist personifies these themes by giving sunlight character; late afternoon shadows take on a behavior of their own and a foggy morning evokes memories and asks for experiences from the viewer. Mr. Situ’s paintings aren’t so much ‘seen’ as they are experienced,’ and each individual spectator brings to their own translation of the picture a past, present and future.
Please join us for a reception for the artist Saturday, November 4th, 5-8 pm and visit the exhibit online at www.segilfineart.com. Sunday, November 12th, Mr. Situ will be doing a painting demonstration in the park across from the gallery and we invite you to join us for this exciting event. Tickets are $10 and include a champagne reception in the gallery after the demonstration. Space is limited, so please RSVP with the gallery by November 6th at 626-358-5563.

Why Do Collectors Collect? Three Part Series Part Two; Why a Collector Collects, The Art and the Artist Last month, we kicked off this series by beginning to explore the psyche of a collector through Gregory J. Peterson’s article, What Motivates a Collector? April 2002 edition of American Artist magazine. Mr. Peterson, a passionate collector himself, points out that buying a painting isn’t just about the physicality of the work but all that goes into and around it, or that ‘buzz’ that is just as much about the artist as it is about the art. This concept can be broken down into four categories for the collector:

Laura finds motivation for her art in the beauty of nature the striking effect of light on trees, rocks and water, or an awe-inspiring cloud formation. Driven to capture the moment, she says, “It can be an overwhelming need sometimes, as well as a challenge to capture the feeling.” The feelings are evident in her beautiful pastoral landscapes. Laura has studied at Pasadena Center for Fine Arts, Pasadena City College, and Los Angeles County Arboretum, with a focus on landscape painting, plein air painting, watercolor botanical illustration and drawing. A lifelong resident of Sierra Madre, she has also had extensive private study since age 12 with her father, premier California landscape artist Bernard Wynne. She has worked in graphic arts at Santa Anita Racetrack since 1998, and only in the last few years have her family obligations allowed her to realize her dreams of painting and exploring her marvelous potential.Laura is a member of Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, San Gabriel Fine Arts Association, Pasadena Center for Fine Arts, and Fine Artists Factory. Laura Wynne received three awards at this year’s San Gabriel Fine Arts Association’s Fall Open: 2nd Place in the Mechanical/Structure division for “Santa Barbara Mission”; 3rd Place in the Watercolor, Animal division for “Thoroughbred Head Study”; and Honorable Mention in the Landscape, Oil division for “Gray Day, Point Lobos.” (Now available in the gallery. All paintings are depicted below and available for purchase). Laura’s painting “Jacaranda” (pictured below) was recently juried into the upcoming California Art Club’s exhibit Floating Waters and Coastal Vistas, which will be held at the Women’s City Club of Pasadena from November 3rd through May 3rd 2007. There will be an opening reception for the artists Friday, November 3rd at 5:30pm.
