Collector's Corner

Keep It Up
Collecting in Times of Recession

We can’t ignore the state of our economy lately, not only at home but abroad.  When daily decisions become about how much gas to put in the tank or to skip that morning Starbucks, it’s not surprising that art sales also take a hit.  However, buying art in a recession does actually have many upsides for the collector.  SwensonYour budget might not include that huge painting you have had your eye on but now might be the time to look at smaller works by your favorite artists, or works by lesser known and emerging talent. Artists are going to continue to create, especially in tough economic times.  As collectors, we not only support our local and global economy buy continuing to purchase art, but we may very well grow our collections in new and more fulfilling directions.

Art is still, and will always be an investment in the future.   If not only a financial one, certainly a personal one.
Art is a comfort buy.  Just like on those rainy days when chicken soup is what’s called for, a small piece of art can lift your spirits immensely.

The quality of artwork does not diminish in times of recession as other market commodities may tend to do.   By contrast artistic quality thrives.
