Born and raised in California, Milazzo attended Art Center College of Design and Pasadena City College. He found pen and ink to be so dramatic, he knew he found his niche. “Playing with lights and darks is all I have to work with.” Playing is an understatement. There are few artists around that are able to bring to life what Milazzo can with this medium.
Milazzo has been depicting the western lifestyle for years, with all it’s beauty and harsh realities. “I try to depict the Western way of life as accurately as possible,” says Milazzo. “I don’t glorify it or attempt to distort it”.
Joe and his wife Shelley, decided to take their first trip to Europe last year. The trip was an experience both he and his wife will never forget. Bringing his camera, he was able to capture many images of Paris, Florence and the Amalfi Coast.
Excited about the images brought back from Europe, Milazzo did something he has never done before…put together a body of pen and ink work (from his European trip) without a cowboy, cow or horse in any one of his pieces. “It was nerve wracking for the first drawing.” “I was afraid I wouldn’t have the same feelings and passion I have when I complete a western piece. The work came out good, I’m very happy to say.” Collectors who have Milazzos’ western pieces will be pleasantly surprised to see his style in a European setting. If you have never seen Milazzos’ work before, you are in for an exciting experience. | ||

This month in Collector’s Corner we are going to do something a little different and that is introduce a new section, which we will run once every few months and based on the show we had hanging in the gallery the last few weeks entitled Guests of the Gallery. Every week we receive submissions from artists to exhibit with Segil Fine Art. We look at every portfolio, website and the occasional painting off the street, seriously. There are many talented artists out there but unfortunately we cannot represent them all! So the idea formed to host a Guests of the Gallery show, which we will host once a year, and a section of the newsletter to exhibit the work of artists whose work we want to share with you but can’t represent on a full time basis. Below are a few pieces to enjoy in this newsletter.
