Save The Date!
Segil Fine Art welcomes Jennifer McChristian in her solo exhibit, "Off the Beaten Path," a new collection of paintings including urban and surrounding plein air scenes.
"Plein-air painting is somewhat of a spiritual experience for me. Although challenging at times, the end result evokes within me a sense of elation, nostalgia and harmony. When I succeed in conveying those sensations to the viewer, I know I have made an emotional connection with them." Please join us Saturday, September 2nd for a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception from 5-8pm. This exhibit will be available September 2nd for online viewing at www.segilfineart.com. Just click on "online exhibit" under "upcoming events" on the home page. To see a preview of Jennifer's work and her web page, click here. | |

This month I would like to introduce you to the work of Jennifer McChristian.
JENNIFER McCHRISTIAN
Jennifer,
born and raised in Montreal, Canada, has always known from an early age
to pursue art. Upon completing high school, Jennifer began her art
education at Dawson's College in Montreal, Canada. In 1986, she and her
family took permanent residency in California, where she earned a
Bachelor of Fine Art Degree with Honors from Otis Art Institute in
1990. For the following eight years, Jennifer was employed as a full-time animation artist and worked on projects for various studios throughout Los Angeles. Simultaneously, she served in the military reserves for five years. During this time, Jennifer continued to pursue her artistic aspirations. Her studies consisted of painting classes under the tutelage of renowned artists such as Robert Blue, Karl Dempwolf, Scott Burdick and Steve Huston. She admires and is inspired by notable artists such as John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn and Arthur Sreeton.
Jennifer paints primarily in oils and occasionally watercolors. She has
adapted a painterly, impressionist style that expresses her affinity
for nature. "Plein-air painting is somewhat of a spiritual experience
for me. Although challenging at times, the end result evokes within me
a sense of elation, nostalgia and harmony. When I succeed in conveying
those sensations to the viewer, I know I have made an emotional
connection with them" In addition to the landscape, other subjects that
pique her interest consist of the human figure, animals and still-life.Since 2000, Jennifer has devoted herself to painting full-time and actively participates in art events. She also finds the time to pursue other artistic interests such as classical ballet. Jennifer believes learning is a never-ending process for artists and continues to develop and refine her artistic talent through workshops, research, travel and frequent excursions to museums and galleries. Jennifer received an honorable mention at the 2002 East Valley Art Open Art Show. She has been invited to exhibit her work at the Women's City Club in Pasadena and the California Art Club Gallery in San Marino. "Path.
The word evokes many things. A physical throughway cut in wilderness, a
long stretch of exposed ground in clearings of wild grass. It can
suggest an emotional series of events moving one towards embracing new
perspectives. A new "path"
connotes a spiritual epiphany that brings
the soul closer to personal enlightenment and enhanced understanding. The unifying principle of this collection is my attempt to pull order
from chaos, direction from aimlessness and reveal what I hope is a new
perspective on nature. A metropolitan setting tends to erase any sense
of wilderness, while paintings of nature tend to tame it. The picture
of the world I attempt to illuminate and capture, exists in this realm;
yet should defy expectation. Here, I present my own interpretation of
both urban and natural landscapes through a series of plein-air and
studio paintings."

The Art Blog Phenomenon "You like it? Want it? Click on it." "The Internet can provide something that no other medium can -
real-time drama" - Gregory Peterson, USA Today Many of you may, or may not, be familiar with a new trend that is subtlety sweeping through the Internet art world; the artist's blog . The concept is a simple one and extremely consumer friendly, which is why we wanted to share it with our collectors. Basically,
an artist sets up a space on his website for a "daily blog" where he
will post one painting each day and sends an email out to all of his
clients for purchase. The first one to purchase the painting wins
(the painting)!
But
it's not as easy as one might think to obtain one of these unique works
of art. Having a different piece of original and affordable artwork
(most paintings are small and range from $100-$400) emailed to you on a
regular basis, clicking on the image and typing in your credit card
number sounds pretty simple. However, you are not the only one
receiving the email. Some artists have over 10,000 recipients on
their email list. I've been subscribing to a well-known artist's
blog, Postcard From Provence for over 6 months
now. I open the email everyday, as soon as it pops into my
mailbox, and immediately click on the image. (I'm now familiar
with the artist, Julian Merrow-Smith, like his work very much and would
love to own a piece.) I have yet to be the first in line to be
able to purchase, as they are always sold. That, however, is the
fun!
Interactive
fine art buying on the Internet...who would have guessed? As a
gallery owner who utilizes and respects Internet commerce, I'd like to
share a few facts from an article in USA Today sent to me by one of our artists who I highly respect.
Maria Puente
USA Today Our suggestion? Blog away! Find an artist who you like, or
many, that have blogs and sign up on their site. It's pretty
exciting to receive a little art-treat in your email box
everyday. And it's even more exciting to try and obtain it!
And yes, watch for Segil Fine Art to put out our own blog in the very
near future. The best part about a gallery blog though, is that
you aren't limited to receiving works from just one artist, but the
from the entire gallery's artist roster. So stay tuned!
