This month I am proud to introduce you to the artwork of Lynne Fearman and Felice Hrovat.

Lynne Fearman

Born to an artist illustrator father, Lynne began her art studies at the tender age of 5 years old. (At least that’s her earliest recollection)  Fluent in watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and oils, Lynne has been primarily working in oils for the past 8 years.  Leaving the comfort of her studio, and heading out for the great outdoors, she has joined the Huntington Garden Art Guild, the ‘Artists of the Canyon’, of Glendale, and regularly paints on Thursdays, with the ‘Thursday en Plein-Air Painters’, formed by Mid-Valley Arts League.  Painting outdoors has honed her skills in color interpretation and freed her to become more impressionistic in her approach to landscape painting. Lynne is winner of ‘Best in Show’ and the Don Miles Award, at San Gabriel Fine Arts Shows, and Best of Show at Mid-Valley Arts League, and has won many awards at the regions’ local art shows.

Felicé Hrovat

Felicé Hrovat’s interest in art started as a teenager in his native town of Trieste, Italy. His vision of becoming a competent artist has always been a part of himself. He worked as a commercial artist for over thirty years in Montreal, Canada, and in California. Since his retirement in 1991, Felicé has dedicated most of his time learning and experimenting with color and developing his own painting style. He is one of the artist demonstrators at the annual Southland Art Association Festival of Art Show and has been conducting oil painting workshops at Taylor Ranch in Montebello since 1993. His work has won “Best of Show” in several competitions including the San Gabriel Fine Arts Fall Show, the Annual Art Festival in Montebello, and the Wilshire Square’s Annual Art Street Festival in Santa Ana.

Collecting at Home or on Vacation

Recently my husband and I returned from a vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. We try to visit every year and I’m never ceased to be pleasantly surprised at how big the art market is, and fast growing (I’m told on all of the Islands), both with commercial and co-op galleries. The majority of art business in tourist areas of the islands is, of course, tourists wanting to take home a piece of paradise. Luxury resorts have also gotten into the act by featuring local artists in their lobbies and lounges. It got me to pondering the question of collecting at home or on vacation. Is there a difference and what are the pros and cons? In my mind, finding a great piece of art, no matter where you are, is always a plus! If you are on traveling, getting it home is another matter. A few tips while collecting while traveling:

  • Make sure the gallery (or the artists) has an adequate shipping policy whereupon the artwork is insured and you can return it for a full refund if damaged.
  • Always buy what you like, but are relatively sure you are going to still like when you get it home.
  • If you plan to carry the painting on the plane, make sure the seller packs it securely and check with the airline regarding sizes they will allow you to carry-on.
  • I suggest never checking a painting, no matter how well packed, through with the luggage unless it is a small, under 8x10 framed painting packed in your luggage. You are much better off to have it shipped by a professional packing and shipping company with insurance.

So go on vacation and collect art!
