This Month's Featured Exhibiting Artists

This month I would like to introduce you to the work of Lynne Fearman and Laura Wambsgans.

LYNNE FEARMAN
I can't remember much before the age of 5, but shortly after 5 years old, my artist father took me up to his studio and told me I would be an artist. "Today, we are going to learn to draw the human body." "But Daddy, I want to draw a horse!" Charles Schneeman, science fiction illustrator, decided that I was his last hope to pass on his talents.

My brothers weren't interested in art, but I loved watching my father bring life to a simple line drawing. He taught me to carry a tablet of paper and pen everywhere I go. I'm never bored when waiting for an appointment, I'll draw the waiting room, or scenes from my imagination. Always with the best art materials at my finger tips, and though my father died when I was only 15, his art lessons continue to whisper to me whenever I need them. I'm carrying on the Schneeman (Snowman) tradition in the Fearman name.

Most of my life has been spent painting in watercolors. They travel well and I delight in the immediacy of them. In recent years, I've been drawn to paint in oils, exploring the textures oils can create. Acrylic paint is also a favorite medium, because of its versatility. I just can't figure out why it "gets no respect."

I enjoy putting my own spin on a landscape, changing the light to enhance the subject.

Although I've dabble in portraits and genre, I'm a landscape painter at heart.

Collector's Corner
Just to Enjoy
We Don’t Always Have to Buy It to Enjoy It

Recently I attended the Constable show at the Huntington Gardens and last month the Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum.  Next week Sam Hyde Harris at the Pasadena Museum of History is on the schedule.  While participating in these spectacular events in our area it occurred to me (rare for a gallery owner to admit, at least this one!) that we certainly don’t have to own the art to fully appreciate it as our own.  We are given ownership of all these past and contemporary masters through the museums which share them.  While purchasing a piece of art is half the fun of collecting, the other half is the pure enjoyment one receives by looking at the work each and every day.  A museum show offers the appreciative collector an opportunity to gaze upon, even for just a short period, works of art that will never become available on the market or are simply out of their price range.  So for your next collector outing, visit the museums!
