Linda Brown, a Southern California native, has been painting all her life. (Well, ok, not all her life, but since the age of 3 anyway.) While in high school she was introduced to oil paints and has been passionate about it ever since. For many years her specialty had been commissioned portraiture. Being an unashamed “nature lover”, when she was offered a commission that involved a significant outdoor landscape as a background, she jumped at the chance. That whet her appetite for more and she decided to elaborate on her portraits more often by setting the subject in the outdoors. Studying great landscape art of the past and present, she found herself especially drawn to the beautiful light and color found most often in the plein air works of early California artists such as: Edgar Payne, Maurice Braun, Guy Rose, and Elmer & Marion Wachtel. Seeking further growth, she has studied with several contemporary masters such as Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb.
Soon the outdoor work became her main focus. Her landscapes have an entirely different look than her classical portrait and still life works. In a style described as “painterly realism”, they emphasize the effects of light and atmosphere, and a sense of time and place. In both cases, however, her main goal is to capture the “spirit” of the subject she is painting. “This world is full of beauty, from grand mountain vistas to butterfly wings. Painting such beauty is a joy I just couldn’t live without. When others look at my paintings, and feel that same sense of joy and beauty, I am deeply grateful for having been able to share the experience!”
Linda Brown has also been accepted to this year’s San Marino League Fund Raiser “Art Matters”

| Collector's Corner Mother’s Day The Perfect Gift is a Work of Art Purchasing a piece of artwork speaks to the buyer on a personal level, so does giving artwork as a gift. The gift of art enriches the recipients life in more ways than one and often inspires the recipient’s own creativity. What better way to show your Mom how much she means than by giving her a beautiful work of art from your heart? Another fabulous idea for Mom on Mother’s Day is to take her to an art event. The Pasadena Art Gallery Association is hosting a Mother’s Day Fine Art Event at the Langham (Formerly Ritz-Carlton) Huntington Hotel. There will five galleries hosting the event: Segil Fine Art, Tirage Fine Art, Michael Hollis Fine Art, Galerie Gabrie and the San Marino Gallery, each inviting a select number of artists who will be painting throughout the grounds. There will be refreshments in the Lobby Courtyard with information about the artists and where they will be painting. If buying a piece of artwork as a gift is a bit intimidating, please visit us here a the gallery or on our website. Another great alternative is our Fine Art Gallery Gift Invitation, which you may specify any amount towards a piece of artwork here in the gallery or on the website. | ||
