Meet Artist Cliff Cramp Cliff Cramp is a Southern California native. In addition to being a Plein Air artist, Cliff is a freelance illustrator and Illustration Professor at California State University at Fullerton. Creating art brings great joy to Cliff. However, his greatest joy comes from his family, wife and two boys.
The body of work in his current show was created “for the pure enjoyment of painting.” Cliff had a studio fire about five years ago and lost ten years of work. Since he had just begun the tenure-track process at Cal. State, he needed to develop whole new bodies of art. He set out in two directions – developing his own story art and landscape painting. Cliff shares that, “Plein Air gets me outdoors. It’s the painting that I do for me. I love the history of the California Impressionists and California Scene Painters also.” Currently living in Orange County, Cliff says, “Southern California has a wonderful variety in its landscape. I am drawn to the ocean most of all.” “Crystal Cove (pictured at right) is one of my favorite places to paint. The old bungalows right on the beach are amazing. This one is my favorite. I am pleased that they are refurbishing this old art colony into a state park. This particular home has a lot of character. I can read story into it which is the illustrator in me.” Cliff finds that that people, “identify with something in my paintings that trigger a memory of a particular place that had meaning for them.” "Please join us for Cliff’s show and opening reception Saturday, May 7, 5-8pm." - Laura |
