This Month's Featured Artist

This month I would like to introduce you to the work of Anna T. Kelly.

ANNA T. KELLY
Anna Kelly was born in China and grew up on the island of Taiwan. As a small child, she was captivated by the effects of light and color, refraction and reflection. For as long as she can remember, she was attracted by the visual arts.

Anna's interest in art drew her to Taiwan's textile industry. In college, she studied art and design, receiving her bachelor of science degree in textile engineering. After finishing college, she worked in fabric design and began training in fine arts in the studios of Professor J.Y. Chen and Professor Lee Teh. She also learned Chinese painting under Professor H.N. Au.

In 1975, she came to the United States. Whenever the opportunity arose, she pursued her artistic interests. She studied art at Pasadena City College, and, beginning in 1995, took part in a comprehensive fine arts curriculum at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. She studied under Richard Lees during 2001-2003, and continues to participate in various courses and workshops offered by Chinese and American masters.

Anna is an Artist Member of the California Art Club and an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America. She is also a member of various local art organizations, including the Pasadena Society of Artists, and Women Painters West. Anna is also active in local and national art club exhibitions.

Anna's sensitivity to color and her unusual and emotive subjects give her paintings a special character that makes them especially attractive to collectors. She says, "I consider myself a portraitist, not only of people, but of nature, buildings and all aspects of daily life. I try to paint what I love, in order to share my affection with the viewers."

Collector's Corner
Just to Enjoy
We Don’t Always Have to Buy It to Enjoy It

Recently I attended the Constable show at the Huntington Gardens and last month the Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum.  Next week Sam Hyde Harris at the Pasadena Museum of History is on the schedule.  While participating in these spectacular events in our area it occurred to me (rare for a gallery owner to admit, at least this one!) that we certainly don’t have to own the art to fully appreciate it as our own.  We are given ownership of all these past and contemporary masters through the museums which share them.  While purchasing a piece of art is half the fun of collecting, the other half is the pure enjoyment one receives by looking at the work each and every day.  A museum show offers the appreciative collector an opportunity to gaze upon, even for just a short period, works of art that will never become available on the market or are simply out of their price range.  So for your next collector outing, visit the museums!
