We’re ready to leave winter behind and start looking towards spring! And to do so we are bringing together three wonderfully talented artists working in three different mediums. Segil Fine Art is pleased to invite you to our first group show of 2006, "Spring is in the Air." We will be featuring the vibrant acrylics of Ana Helena Berenguer, the dynamic oils of Jennifer Hansen and the charming watercolors of Vicki Thomas. This is your exclusive chance to view their new collections. Please join us Saturday, March 25th for a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception, and ring in spring!

This Month's Feature

This month I would like to introduce you to the work of Jennifer Hansen and Vicki Thomas, both of whom will be featured artists in our March group show.

JENNIFER HANSEN splits her time between New Hampshire and San Francisco where she earned both her Bachelor of Fine Art degree and Master of Fine Art degree from the Academy of Art College. In addition to painting, she works as a color designer in industries ranging from textile to animation. Recent projects include background painting and color styling for such clients as Disney, Warner Bros., and LeapFrog.

When not painting digitally, she works primarily in oils. Her favorite subjects are the human figure and the landscapes and light of New England and Northern California.

VICKI THOMAS, watercolor artist, received her B.F.A. from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, after spending a year of study in Amsterdam, Holland. She was a free-lance fashion illustrator in Los Angeles for 17 years before she eased herself into fine arts watercolor.

Since then, she has become a published artist with limited edition prints and greeting cards in the marketplace. She has participated in numerous art shows and exhibits in California, as well as out of state shows and galleries. Vicki belongs to several art clubs and teaches watercolor to both young people and adults.

"I believe that my love for drawing and painting has come from my inner need to create. It’s a wonderful feeling to be totally involved in the process of painting and then to experience the surprising and delightful results."

Collector's Corner

The Personal Value of Collecting Fine Art: Listen to Your Instincts
There is No Time Like the Present

I recently came across a 2005 Collector’s Edition of Southwest Art and had the privilege of re-reading an article by the editor titled "No Time to Lose; Don’t Put Off the Joy of Owning Art." It was a wonderfully refreshing reminder of the thrill, and often necessity, of collecting in the moment. How many times have we admired a piece only to go home and "think about it," returning to the gallery to then find it sold? Recently we were changing the exhibit here at Segil Fine Art and I was faced a disturbing prospect; returning one of my favorite pieces of artwork to the artist. I had admired this little painting for two months, which would cheerfully greet me each day when I’d walk through the front door. However, it took me a moment to realize the obvious, I wanted that painting in my own collection at home! Yet another reminder that when collecting, don’t ignore your instincts because there is no time like the present and you may not get a second chance.

Kristin Bucher, editor for Southwest Art shares a few insights:
  • "Don’t put off things that matter, because life has a way of going by much more quickly than we think it will."
  • "If you see it, and like it and can afford it, buy it!"
  • "Don’t analyze too much. That’s where many of us get stuck-too much analysis."
  • Finally, "Don’t postpone the pleasure that comes from living with art."
