Meet Artist Trish Kertes

As both a successful painter and a marriage family therapist, La Cañada artist Trish Kertes helps bring serenity to life, as shown in “Mood Indigo” (pictured at right).

“Mood Indigo” depicts Devereaux Slough in Goleta, near UC Santa Barbara.

“I painted it because I love the area. This was late afternoon, which gives it a very warm glow. I love the reflection of the eucalyptus in the water. The water is shallow so you see more color in the water than you would with very deep water. You see some of the sandy bottom along with the color reflected. Painting on location is the best way to capture the mood, the color, the time of day.”

“I’m constantly looking and being charmed by the light or a shade of color in nature. I do a lot of hiking and biking and birdwatching, and they all take me out in nature. Painting is just another extension of enjoying nature.”

Trish’s partnership with Segil Fine Art gallery stretches back four years.

“My friendships through art have become some of my most valued people because we share a common interest, a common love," says Trish. "Laura Segil is a very important supporter of my art."

“People should come to the opening because I'm going to have brand-new paintings, and to meet me, and talk with me about my art. I hope my art conveys some of the same peacefulness and enjoyment of life that someone would derive from therapy.”

"Please join us for Trish's solo show on March 5th from 5 to 9 p.m. Meet Trish and hear the stories behind her paintings. I'm looking forward to seeing you."  - Laura

First Time Art Buys: Why We Acquire Art

The old adage really does hold true, “You know what you like.” Whether the piece of art is big or small, easily affordable or maybe a stretch on your price range, there is one rule of thumb for any buyer and that is to say, “I like to look at that picture.” The reasons for “liking to look at that picture” are individual to each and every art acquirer, whether a first-time buyer or a seasoned collector. However, there are a few universal reasons why people buy art:

  • The subject matter evokes a memory or emotion.
  • The piece itself speaks to you on a personal level and you like what you are looking at.
  • A personal connection – you have taken an art class with them, the artist is a friend or you have purchased their work in the past and love their style.

Whatever your personal reason for acquiring art, we can put you together with a piece of art that speaks to you personally. Please drop by the gallery or call me at 626-358-5563.

Upcoming topics: lighting, hanging, cleaning, storing, insurance, earthquake, lending, estate, appraising, selling, gift giving and shipping. Your artwork is part of your family and we’re here to help. If there’s something you’d like to know, please email me. Thank you.
