This Month's Featured Exhibiting Artist
During the month of January, I would like to introduce you to the work of David Damm.

David Damm was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Art Center College of Design and later studied with the noted Russian painter, Sergei Bongart (1919 –1985). His career began illustrating books, magazines and newspapers.

In 1981 he began exhibiting, and has since participated in numerous exhibitions, throughout the country, including the Natural History Museum, the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, The Bowers Museum and others in the Los Angeles area. He was featured in “American Artist” and has received many top awards including first place at the 1996 Mission San Juan Capistrano Plein Air Painting Event sponsored by Joan Irvine Smith. His greatest honor was meeting and completing a commissioned portrait of President Ronald Reagan.

Damm is a signature member of the California Art Club and a board member. He is a signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and a member of the American Pastel Society. He divides his work between portrait commissions and landscapes, working in both oil and pastel.

Fresh Perspective
A New Look in the New Year

The New Year is like a clean slate and gives us all the opportunity for a new and fresh perspective on what is important to our lives and what we would like to focus on or pay more attention. For many, this might mean making New Year’s resolutions, or keeping true to the ones we made last year. A fresh prospective can also be applied to our appreciation of art. In other words, give your appreciation a boost or breath of fresh air.
  • Add a new piece or subject matter to your collection. Always loved landscapes? Go on the hunt for a still life, floral, figurative or rustic urban landscape painting that gives you a thrill.
  • Change around your existing collection. You would be amazed at just how the relocation of a few paintings gives them, and your collection, an entirely new life.
  • Find a new artist. Among the well know and established artists that you might be familiar with, keep your eyes open and upon emerging artists.Thinking of starting a collection? Go for it! It only takes one piece of art…
