Artist's Statement
Permit me to introduce myself. My name is Kanya and I
am an impressionist. Inspired by the great masters, painting
became for me a passionate quest.
Creativity has always been a major factor in my life. Bold
strong brush strokes, vivid colors and transparent shadows,
are what I long to achieve. Over the past four decades, studying,
teaching and painting, I have developed my own unique impression
of the relationship between color, light and nature. I feel
accomplished when I experience and sense the mood and then
succeed to convey it on canvas. At times when I feel beyond
that, the inspiration flows, the brush moves and one finds
ones self in another dimension.
I was fortunate to work with some of today's leading
impressionists. Charles Movalli, Vincent Farrell, Ron Lucas,
Del Gish, Ted Goershner, David Laffell all contributed greatly
to my understanding and appreciation of fine art. Sergei Bonart
challenged me the most and left a great imprint on my creative
life. He demanded always more and more, relentlessly. Under
his guidance and tutelage, I and those who were fortunate
to study with him, received the gift of craftsmanship and
mastery of fine art. He was a true master painter, and being
his student was an unforgettable experience.
I prefer to work with oils. If offers such fine means of
fluid expression. I enjoy doing florals, still life and plein
air work. My paintings can be found in many private collections
in the United States, Germany, Sweden and Russia. At the present
I show my work in southern and northern California galleries,
teach and work on improving my style and inspire others to
paint.
